This limited edition 6” plate commissioned by the Far Eastern University, is a creation of the master Filipino potter Lanelle Abueva. Specializing in handmade stoneware ceramics, Abueva combines traditional techniques with a modern aesthetic. The artist uses her favorite material which is uniquely Filipino – ash from Mt. Pinatubo which erupted in 1991 and devastated several provinces north of Manila.
The central design element is the university’s sarimanok logo, inspired by the legendary bird of the Maranao people. The sarimanok represents the nationalistic spirit upon which the university is founded.
